Pregnant Yoga

Prenatal Yoga

This class is primarily focused to support the maternal bond and communication with your growing bub through breath. We work on preparation for body and mind at whatever stage of pregnancy for delivery and beyond, exploring asana and modifications tailored to your body, visualisations and meditation to explore waves of sensations, building inner strength and reaching stillness. At the end of the session, we will conclude with a short mindfulness or restorative practice.

Benefits of prenatal yoga:

  • Supports your changing body by providing safe ways to stretch and strengthen different parts of your body so as to ease the process of supporting a growing belly

  • Tones important muscle groups such as the pelvic floor, hips, upper back and abdominal core muscles while providing opportunities to stretch and gently open up the shoulders and chest

  • Prepares your body for labour and delivery through use of specific asana positions, breathwork and movements as well as providing knowledge on how to position baby optimally for birth

  • Promotes connection with your baby as you notice your body's different responses to the breathwork and physical practice

  • Provides relief from common pregnancy complaints such as low back pain, nausea and headaches, by stretching and toning the muscles and facilitating better circulation of blood around the body.

  • Inspires a mindful childbirth by increasing your self awareness and deepening the trust in your body to move and breathe in the best way for yourself and baby, as well as trusting your body during the process of childbirth

  • Encourages community through building friendships with like-minded mamas

Postpartum Yoga-Foundations

This is a 4-weeks postpartum series which focuses on building the foundation for supporting and healing your body and mind after the experience of giving birth, whether through vaginal or caesarean birth. You will be reconnecting back to your body through postural alignment, breath awareness, pelvic floor balancing and core training. With these elements as the foundation, you will also be rebuilding strength to prepare your body for everyday activities.

Once postpartum, always postpartum. It is never too late to revisit the foundations of strengthening and reconnecting back to the postpartum body.

Postpartum Yoga

We will be focusing on strengthening our back and glutes, core strengthening, pelvic floor balancing as well as shoulder and chest openings, through vinyasas and restorative poses. This is a wonderful opportunity for any postpartum woman, who have taken the postpartum foundational course, to progress and deepen their asana practice, as well as to build their practice to safely progress and integrate into the open level classes. At the end of the session, we will conclude with a short mindfulness or restorative practice.

Benefits of postpartum yoga:

  • Reconnecting you to your body as a new mother and the mother you are becoming, regardless first time or multiple times. Postpartum yoga offers a mindful way to reconnect you to your body, breath and mind, nurturing and replenishing your energy reserves as a mother.

  • Re-establishing postural alignment: During the 9 months of pregnancy, the spine and pelvis goes through a lot of stress and strain to accommodate the growing baby in the belly. After birth, postural changes are also seen in the new mother as she adapts to her postpartum body and physical requirements of motherhood. These postural changes often contributes to low back pain, shoulders and neck aches.

  • Rebuilding flexibility and strength while easing pain and stiffness: Caring for a new baby can be strenuous on the postpartum body resulting in aches and stiffness in different parts of the body. Postpartum yoga can bring balance to the pelvis and connective tissue structures around, release muscles that tighten during pregnancy and postpartum, and rebuild the functionality of the core.

  • Easing stress and restoring hormonal balance: A woman goes through intense hormonal changes during pregnancy and birth. After birth, a restoration of hormonal balance in the body is often much needed and this can be done through postpartum yoga.  By encouraging relaxation, creating and holding the space for new mothers to focus on her breath, on relaxing and letting go of stress.

Slow Flow

This class focuses on the exploration of breath, alignment, balance, strength and flexibility in a conscious flow that guides you to that relaxing and rejuvenating feeling you have been looking for. You will be instructed in a workshop style manner throughout to ensure your understanding and application of the practice. The pace of the class is slow and comfortable, perfect start for beginners and suitable for all levels.
